As 2016 draws to a close and the new year approaches, it’s time to take a good long moment to consider if your family home is still the right place to be. Life changes, and so do our needs. And sometimes that means we outgrow our homes and neighborhoods. Here’s a list of things to consider when making the big decision.
1. Growing Family
That beautiful 3 bedroom 2 bath may have been your dream home when you originally moved in, but a baby or two later, your quickly growing family may rapidly outgrow your space. If you’re starting to feel cramped, it may be time to consider sizing up.
On the other side, if your children are grown and you find yourself with too much space, you may want to consider sizing down with your next home. You’ll cut down the bills and your home will feel warmer and fuller as a result.
Through life our priorities change. As a young couple you may want to be near downtown and the heart of the city. But perhaps when you have children you’d prefer somewhere with a top school district. The life and focus of your neighborhood can change and be outgrown as easily as your home itself. Are you still happy in your current location?
4. Pretty Little Things
This one might not seem as important as the others, but it truly does play a role in happiness. Have you considered if your home has all the little finishings and details you truly want in your home? Do you have those counter tops you’ve always longed for? That walk in closet? As Liz often says, “Life is too short to live in a house you don’t love.”
There’s so much that goes into a home. And it can be a very emotional topic. But if you’re no longer in love with your place, 2017 may be the year to upgrade. Live in a home you love.
