As the holidays get nearer, there’s lots of traditions we enjoy with our families with a sense of warmth and familiarity. 1. Christmas Chicken – Japan
Oddly enough, KFC chicken has become an absolute staple of the holidays in Japan. Everyone has to get their hands on some delicious fried chicken for the season! Lines several hours long can form outside of restaurants for those who did not order in advance!
2. Roll Into Mass – Venezuela
In Venezuela an interesting tradition has formed! Many people make their usual trip into mass, but on Christmas day, they skate their way in on roller blades!
3. If The Shoe Fits – Germany
In Germany, the night before Christmas, children leave a shoe out. If they’ve been good that year, they will awake to candy and sweets in their shoe! If they’ve been naughty, only a tree branch will be there!
4. All The Single Ladies - Czech Republic
In the Czech Republic, there’s a fascinating tradition amongst the single women. They stand outside their homes with their backs to the door and toss a shoe over their shoulder. If the toe is pointed toward the door, they are destined to marry in the new year.
5. Yule Goat – Sweden
Every year since 1966 the people of Sweden have worked to build a larger than life goat made of hay and ribbons. However, every single year it’s managed to burn down. But they suppose that’s half the fun in the end!
